Integrated Occupancy Sensing Occupancy sensing provides automatic on/off control so that lights are not being used when the room is unoccupied. Occupancy sensors pick up movement or sounds by occupants when the space is in use and turn the lights on. When the space is unoccupied, they turn the lights off. In rooms where the lights are frequently left on, or where rooms are left unoccupied for large periods during the day or night, an occupancy sensor can cut lighting costs by as much as 50%. For occupancy sensors, two technologies dominate: infrared and ultrasonic.
